New Year doesn't have to mean New You

I wonder how many people are actually inspired by the deluge of New Year’s resolution adverts or how many grumble about them like me. Don’t get me wrong, I am not against resolutions or trying to improve yourself or your life if that’s what you want to do. But I am against the pressure to set resolutions in January. The sparkle of Christmas is fading and the cold darkness of winter is setting in; all I want to do is roll myself up in a duvet and hibernate. I’d propose spring resolutions instead- when lambs are being born, blossom is blooming, days are lighter and everything seems more possible. Or make changes whenever you feel like it. I’m pretty certain I promise myself to remember to moisturise my skin more regularly at least once a month which is of course forgotten within a week!

When you run a business (or blog or side hustle or YouTube channel) however, the new year is a good time to take stock of the last year- what went well and what didn’t? Instead of resolutions I’m going for actionable tasks. Saying I want x followers on Instagram or x orders is a bit pointless without knowing how I will work towards these goals. I have a pretty basic system and I’m sure there are people out there with better but I like mine because it makes sense to me…! I tend to break down what I want to happen each month e.g. launch new products. Then I break down these goals further into an ongoing to do list. Launch new products will be broken down into sample new products, photograph new products, edit photographs, write product descriptions and upload the new products onto The Internet. This is much more doable and there are chances to grow orders and to attract new customers and followers with shiny new things. Work on the things that will help you reach your goals instead of obsessing over the goals themselves. I also try to set myself reasonable but not over-generous time lines. I don’t want to get annoyed with myself for not meeting a deadline I set for myself which wasn’t achievable in the first place. I think what I am trying to say is know yourself and push yourself but be kind to yourself at the same time J

How do you set yourself goals and targets? Are you team New Year’s resolutions, spring resolution or no resolutions?

P.S. I have just moisturised so that’s going pretty well so far! Should probably have made a resolution to make posts here more often..!
