How to tie a neat ribbon bow

I tie a lot of bows so I thought it was time I did a post on how I tie my silk ribbons. Tying a bow by making a single knot with two loops can work well for a quick ribbon bow but I usually use this method when I'd tying a ribbon around another object first. I'm using my navy star print silk Tess ribbon which has 6% elastane for a little bit of stretch. This really helps when tying a ribbon in your hair as the elastic means you can tie a tighter knot for a longer lasting bow!

You can watch my video on my Instagram here but I know I sometimes find still photos easier to follow, so I thought I’d do both for whichever way you prefer! You can watch my ribbon tying video here

Bring your ribbon up around the sides of whatever you are tying it on

Take the left hand end of the ribbon up and over the right hand end then fold it behind the right hand end to create a single knot. You want the left side of the ribbon to be ever so slightly longer than the right.

Form a loop with the right hand end of ribbon and bring the left hand end up from behind the loop

Bring the left hand end over the top of the right hand loop

Tuck the left hand end up behind the loop to form the second loop

Pull both loops to tighten

You can tweak and pull the bow to end it looking as even as you’d like and then you are done!
